Decorate with an American flag inspired colores red, whote and blue. A vintage flag hangs above the mantel, warm inviting sofas in red velvet and patterned prints.
When you think about Red, White and Blue it brings on thoughts of 4th of July and for decorating, it’s typically kids rooms. It’s a very traditional and classic combination of hues that have been used for hundreds of years. However, there are new trends that use a tweaked version of this happy trio that can result in a more modern look in decorating.
Start by making the basic white more of a tan, turn the red into something closer to terra cotta and use teal or turquoise instead of classic navy blue and you’ve made an entire new combo that is chic and sophisticated.
To use this combo successfully, you might use the tan as a neutral base and the main color palette and build from there, layering strong accents by giving the most important pieces the strongest color. Be careful not to overdo the accents by keeping one or two key pieces in the strongest color, then using the second color for the balance of the elements while keeping a neutral background.
