For Vanity Fair style chronicler and social fixture Amy Fine Collins, weekends are spent far from the fashionable crowd, in a century-old house on Fishers Island that is the opposite of urban.
In the living room of the house, which was built in 1913 by architect John Cameron Greenleaf and decorated with the help of New York designer Robert Hoven, the custom-made sofa is upholstered in a Sahco fabric, the 1940s armchairs are American, and the 1970s side tables are French; the curtains are of a Brunschwig & Fils stripe, and the 1950s rug is by Edward Fields.
Painted Louis XVI chairs surround a 1940s table from Sutter Antiques in the living room; custom-made plaster sconces flank a mirror designed by Robert Hoven.
The entrance hall features a custom-designed rug by Doug and Gene Meyer and a painting signed by Giorgio de Chirico above an 1870s English chest.
A 19th-century Dutch chandelier, a custom-made table, and a 1940s tapestry by Jean Lurçat in the breakfast room.
A portrait of Helena Rubinstein by Edward Barnard Lintott in the dining room.
A guest room’s 1920s wicker chairs are original to the house, the 19th-century table is American, the rug is by Doug and Gene Meyer, and the wall treatment is by Robert Hoven.
A collage by Gloria Vanderbilt and a drawing by Tony Viramontes in a guest room; the walls are painted in Farrow & Ball’s Dutch Pink.
In another guest room, the Marcel Vertès screen came from the estate of Brooke Astor, the circa-1915 rocking chair is original to the house, and the walls are painted in Farrow & Ball’s Setting Plaster.
A vintage wicker sofa with cushions in a Manuel Canovas fabric in the front hall; a painting and drawing of Rubinstein, both by Toni Berli, hang against a wall mural by Robert Hoven.
The “bird room” holds Queen Anne armchairs, a circa-1925 Chinese rug, and original pine cabinetry.
In the master bedroom, drawings by Tony Viramontes hang above a circa-1915 bed, which is dressed in linens designed by Robert Hoven, who also created the wall treatment; the swing-arm lamps by Hinson sport custom-made shades.
