Gardening with plants that thrive in the shade. Astilbe is the perfect way to add color to shaded areas, grown them under trees for pops of color.
Astilbe
Astilbe is a stunning flowering shade loving plant with ornamental, fern-like bronze-and-green foliage and feathery plumed blossoms that comes in purple, red, white and pink. It makes for a great cut flower, it attracts birds, it’s good for containers and has a strong fragrance. The main thing this plant needs is plenty of water in moist well drained soil. From fun to full shade, this plant does well.

Astilbe works great as a container specimen when you need much needed color among the greenery of a shaded part of the garden, the container adds height and interest. Wine barrel container with with astilbe, brunnera, nasturtium, and ferns.
